Sarah Ann Rainwater is the GG-Grandmother of Gary
Jasper & Debra Kim Jasper.
Sarah Ann Rainwater was born on January 10, 1862, to
Miles and Frances (Chaney) Rainwater. Her father was a farmer and
substantial land owner in Pulaski County, Kentucky. She was one of
eleven children born to this couple. On the death of her father in
1884, she inherited a tract of land identified in the will as
"the Irvine place".
On August 5, 1890, she was joined in marriage to
Benjamin Franklin Dawes, the son of Joel and Mary (Owen) Dawes. The
officiating minister was her brother, Rev. Fountain Rainwater.
Sarah and Ben are found in the Pulaski County,
Kentucky censuses of 1900 through 1930. In three of those records,
their surname was spelled Dause, which may indicate how they
pronounced the name. Ben's occupation was listed as farmer, and when
asked in 1930, indicated that the family did not own a radio set.
This, says Rick Jasper, is surprising, because Ben Dawes liked to
have "any and everything that was new".
The couple had one daughter, Mary Etter, who married
John Ed Jasper around 1918. They are living with the Daws family in
1920, and are living next door in 1930, with their four children.
Ben Dawes died on June 9, 1939, and was followed in
death by Sarah, who died December 8, 1942. She was 87-years-old.. The
couple is buried in New Hope Cemetery.

Christmas card, and includes the date 1884 in the lower left corner.
Sarah would have been age 22. The photograph is believed to have been
take by her brother, Terrell Rainwater, who was a professional photographer.

Miles Rainwater is the GGG-Grandfather of Gary Jasper
& Debra Kim Jasper.
Miles Rainwater was born on May 15, 1818 to William
and Martha "Patsy" Hodges Rainwater in Pulaski County,
Kentucky. He was the youngest of six boys born to a family of eleven
surviving children. William died in 1825; Martha died between 1840
and 1850; after which Miles took possession of the Rainwater family
farm in Faubush.
On July 29, 1843, Miles married Frances Chaney, the
daughter of Hiram and Mary Ellen Chaney. Miles made his living as a
farmer, and invested his profits in additional tracts of land.
Miles died on January 9, 1884, leaving a considerable
estate to his wife and children. Nearly all of the children received
land, except for Erasmus and Terrell, who no longer lived in Pulaski
County. Frances received the farm, furniture, livestock and food
stores on hand to use during her lifetime. The family farm went to
Fountain and James at her death in 1911.
Miles and Frances were buried in Rainwater Cemetery,
on the family farm, along with his brother Bartholomew and his wife
Nancy. This cemetery was transcribed in the 1970s, but the location
was not clearly identified. Researchers Darren Waters and Scott
Burton, working with the Pulaski Jail Cemetery Clean-up Deputies,
Mike Harris & Bryan Bishop have recently re-located the cemetery
on a private farm off the intersection of Wolf Creek and Roberts
Roads in Faubush, Kentucky.

Frances Jane Rainwater was born on 8 February 1857, during a brief
period of the nineteenth century in which Pulaski County recorded the
births of its citizens. She was the daughter of Miles Rainwater and
Frances Chaney, granddaughter of William Rainwater and Martha
"Patsy" Hodges. She was a middle child, one of seven sons
and four daughters born Miles and Frances.
On 24 January 1878, Frances married James Willis Tarter. The couple
made their home in Pulaski Co., KY and the 1880 census records the
presence of one child in their home, a son named Erasmus M. Tarter.
Two sons were born after 1880, Christopher Columbus Tarter and John
Virgil Tarter.
In 1884, Miles Rainwater died, leaving to his daughter Frances a
tract of land described as the "Thornton Bernard farm". A
year later, Frances Rainwater Tarter died and was buried in one of
the private family cemeteries. Her grave is apparently unmarked.
