Fall of 1970

Home of Thomas Powel Jasper & Priscilla Malvina Huffaker.

"Notice that the house is set-up as a duplex and is symmetric in design. I'm sure there is a family story behind this design - but don't have any info as to why myself". L.R. Jasper.

Ivan T. Jasper, Virgina Vaught (Godby) and Jarvis (Jarbo) Vaught 1988.

From the Journal of Iva Liebert (Jasper)

"Day two:

Our first visit was to the home of cousin Jarvis Vaught and his wife Virginia. I had not seen them since I was a child of ten. They had recently moved from the country into Somerset and were living in an apartment.

Jarbo (dad said he was always called Jarbo) was sick and weakened by diabetes. He was pleased to see us but obviously wasn't feeling well at all. Neither Jarbo nor Virginia seemed happy about living in town. However, the reality of his failing health had brought this sad change to their lives.

Virginia spoke in a buttery southern drawl and was extremely gracious to us. Her natural charm would have made her a success in any avocation. She was a farmer, born in Casey county, married to Jarbo for 45 years -- a very impressive natural woman. She had a clear memory and gave us general directions to the home place of my great grandfather, Thomas Jasper, and the burial place of his wife Malvira. She pressed us to stay, but we were anxious to see the old homestead. "Ya'll come back now", she said in a lilting musical way, and you could tell that she meant it."

Location of Thomas Powel Jasper & Priscilla Malvina Huffaker home.

(Notes:) of Larry Robert Jasper. Thomas P. was his great grandfather.

See the attached - which is a cropped scan of a map of West Pulaski County.

TPJ's homestead is located in the greyed area - i.e. the grey area covering the label text "Shady Grove Church".

The adjacent road is a treacherous gravel road called Pointer Creek Road. It separates Milford Wilson's property on the west side (as of 1988) ?from TP Jasper's property on the east side. Perchance these Wilson's are decendant's of the earlier Wilsons that raised Priscilla?

At this location, Pointer Creek Road is incredibly steep at both ends, coming down into the valley, creek bottom area- the Wilson/Jasper land is excellent farmland and conveniently located to Little Pointer Creek -Little Pointer Creek actually CROSSES the road nearby, or more correctly, they become one and the same for about 50 feet!

Shady Grove Road is a very short road and Y's off north toward the Shady Grove Church. Both Shady Grove Road and Pointer Creek Road terminate at highway 1676.

As you already know, the headstone for Malvira/Malvina is located in Morgan Cemetary - located on Hickory Nut Ridge Road see smaller greyed area covering the Morgan cemetary marker). Hickory Nut Ridge Road crosses over the head branch of Pointer Creek.

Also note the third grey'ed area on Wilson Ridge Road (see southwest) - this is the location of the Jasper Family Cemetary - I believe the land adjacent to either side of Wilson Ridge Road is still owned and farmed today by descendents of Jacob Abraham Jasper/Charlotte "Lottie" Catherine Dick. In 1996 a grand-daughter of Jacob (and great-grand kids) still lived and worked on the land at the end Wilson Ridge Road (she would be 85 now, and I don't know if she is still living). I have made a note to find out.

Finally - on the very remote chance that you don't have this info - note that north of the Jasper property is Vaught Ridge Road and Rock Lick Creek Road.

Thank you Larry.

Note of Larry Robert Jasper.

Original TPJ homestead - June 1996, taken from Pointer Creek Road, directly in front of the Wilson's property, looking to the East. Only one of the out buildings remain - the house is completely gone, but the large tree on the right remains (recall it was next to the house).

Jasper Family Cemetary - June 1996. I have good pictures of most of the headstones, including William, Thomas, and Jacob.
