Ma, Me, and Moll
"Me" is Mrs, Deedy Luster, daughter of "Ma" Mrs.
Bettie Martin. "Ole Moll" is the MARE Deedy is sitting on.
Notice she is riding side saddle. In those days it was a disgrace to
ride straddle as men did. The colt is "Ole Moll" offspring.
Bettie sold Saymons Cosmetics for twenty-five years or longer. She
and "Ole Moll" travel many miles together taking orders and
delivering. Saymons Salve was one of her best sellers. Bettie also
rode side saddle. As a young girl, she challenged boys her age, many
times, for a horse race, and won. When Betty was nine years old in
1869, her father, John Green Watson, wife, two sons, George and
Silas, plus two other families went to Missouri in a covered wagon caravan.
